Strengthening Innovation Capabilities in Nursing
Nurses play a critical role at the frontline of care, with deep insights into patient needs, care delivery challenges, and system inefficiencies. There is increasing recognition globally that empowering nurses with innovation capabilities is key to improving care outcomes, workforce sustainability, and system efficiency.
In Singapore, this is particularly important as care models evolve to meet the needs of an ageing population and rising chronic disease burden. Enabling nurses to move beyond problem identification to solution development and implementation is essential to unlocking meaningful, ground-up innovation.
Singapore Biodesign's National Nursing Innovation Playbook was released in March 2026, highlighting the current infrastructure in-place and gaps for opportunistic change. The Playbook highlights potential avenues to strengthen innovation capabilities across the nursing workforce, translating frontline insights into actionable solutions and fostering a more supportive ecosystem for nurse-led innovation.
